Childcare Update (3.23.20)

childcare

Dear Y Childcare families,

These are extraordinary times, and the information about the pandemic and its effect within Skagit is coming in fast and evolving rapidly. At the Skagit Valley Family YMCA, our first concern is the safety of our families, children, staff, and our community at large. We have been in regular communication with Skagit Public Health to ensure we are following our best community recommendations. By pulling together as a community and supporting our health departments' expert guidance, we can, and we will save lives together!

Our State and local officials all recognize that childcare is an essential service to many families. It is for this reason that, even after schools have closed, they are recommending that childcare centers remain open if possible. DCYF has also provided recommendations and direction as we navigate this situation and continues to request that we stay open if at all possible.

Still, the strongest recommendation to reduce community spread of Covid-19 is that all people, including children, avoid social gatherings of any kind.

It is for this reason that I am writing to ask you to consider keeping your children at home if at all possible. For some of you in essential services (health workers, first responders, grocers, supply chain workers, by way of example), this is not possible. For others, however, we are asking that you consider home options to assist our Skagit community as we fight the spread of this virus. Our main goal is to slow the spread to ensure our hospitals and healthcare system is not overwhelmed and that those who need care will be able to receive it.

The Skagit Y will continue childcare service as we are able at all of our sites. A confirmed case at a site will, however, require a closure. We continue to require that any child with cold symptoms remains at home. Additionally, now, we are asking that you consider keeping your children home if at all possible to follow social distancing recommendations.

Please know that if you do keep your child at home, we will hold your child's registration slot and any time already paid for will be credited back to your account when we are able to open regular service again.

For questions or clarification please contact your site director. Thank you for choosing to be a part of the Y! Be well, and stay safe!
