GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity on a designated day immediately following Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This GivingTuesday, please consider giving to the Skagit Valley Family YMCA.
Why donate to the Skagit Valley Family YMCA?
- We Close Opportunity Gaps
The COVID-19 pandemic has left millions of American families struggling to make ends meet. At the Y, we seek to identify and close opportunity gaps in our community to ensure that all Skagit families have equitable access to key resources. Partnering with Skagit Gleaners in 2020, we were able to redistribute excess food from local grocery stores and restaurants directly to Y childcare families. - We Provide Resources to Those in Need
At the beginning of the pandemic, while our doors were closed, our Y partnered with Community Action to create a shower service program. Individuals experiencing homelessness could utilize our locker rooms for showering and grooming at no cost. - We Build Community
During the closures, our Y team quickly adapted to provide opportunities for our Y family to connect virtually through baking classes, gardening club, photography sessions, youth activities, and discussion groups for seniors. - We Meet Community Needs
The Y has been a key part of the Skagit community since 1911, continuously shifting to serve an evolving community. During the pandemic, we stepped up to provide for Skagit youth through continued ELC services, expanded Beyond the Bell programs to assist families through virtual learning, and quickly adapted our Y Kids’ Zone at Hoag Road to provide emergency childcare for essential workers.

GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity, and equity around the globe. Although we don’t know what this winter will bring with the pandemic, we know that with your help, our Y will be ready to fill the greatest needs of our community.
Give to our Y today to spread hope for a stronger Skagit community. We are in this together!
