October Brown Bag Lunch: Smart Power
Let’s consider the grid — how the electricity that powers our homes, lights our streets, perhaps even our cars — finds it’s way into our communities: where does this energy come from, how is it generated & how can we as consumers use this resource wisely & sustainably? Join the Skagit Valley Family AOA & Walt Blackford, Outreach Manager for Puget Sound Energy (PSE) in Skagit County and Whidbey Island for a thoughtful conversation about Smart Energy Usage. Walt’s wide ranging conversation will cover basic electric/gas safety & will close with a high-level overview of a few of the online tools customers can use to manage their accounts, check usage, pay bills & in between Walt will discuss: + How power is restored after an outage. + Options for customers to support green power (solar and wind). + PSE’s commitment to renewable energy generation and to eliminating coal-powered generation. + Pilot programs coming soon to support the transition to clean electric vehicles. + High-level overview of programs to help customer reduce energy use and lower their bills. Walt lives on Whidbey Island and has worked with PSE since 2008. His career has focused on issues of sustainability, community development, and communications in all sectors: public, private, and nonprofit.
