Teen & Adult Group Swim Lessons

A water accident can happen to anyone, no matter how old.

Swimmers new to our program are encouraged to attend a free Swim Skills Assessment to determine which class is the best fit!

Teen & Adult Lessons: Beginner

There are no skill prerequisites for adults joining this class. Individuals must be at least 13 years of age.

This class is designed for teens & adults who have little to no experience in the water. Participants will learn how to be safe in/around the water along with basic swimming skills including breathing, floats, glides, kicking, forward progression, and treading.

Friday Lessons will take place in the Lap Pool, which ranges in depth from 3.5′ – 7′ deep and is typically 81º F. Evening Lessons take place in the Teaching Pool.

Teen & Adult Lessons: Intermediate

Teens & adults joining this class must be able to independently:

  • Submerge, retrieve object in chest-deep water
  • Float on front and back for at least 15 seconds
  • Swim 15 yards on front and back (does not have to be technically sound)
  • Swim-float-swim for at least 25 yards
  • Tread water for 30 seconds

This class is designed for teens & adults who have the basic skills of swimming and are wanting to develop the technical components of specific strokes and begin working on endurance. This class will focus on the technical components of freestyle and backstroke, and will also introduce breaststroke, butterfly, and resting strokes.

Friday lessons will take place in the Lap Pool, which ranges in depth from 3.5′ – 7′ deep and is typically 81º F. Evening lessons take place in the Teaching Pool. 

Teen & Adult Lessons: Advanced

Teens & Adults joining this class must be able to:

  •  Swim 50 yards any stroke or combination of strokes
  • Swim 25 yards of front crawl and back crawl
  • Do 25 yards of butterfly kick and breaststroke kick
  • Tread water for at least one minute

This class is designed for teens & adults who have swimming skills and are wanting to continue developing the technical components of competitive swimming strokes and continue working on endurance. This class will focus on  the technical components of freestyle and backstroke, including flip turns, and will also continue development of breaststroke and butterfly.

Aquatic Conditioning: Swim Team Prep

Teens joining this class must be able to:

  • Front crawl with a flip turn, 50 yards
  • Back crawl with a flip turn, 50 yards
  • Breaststroke with an open turn, 50 yards
  • Butterfly with simultaneous arm action & kick, 25 yards
  • Standing dive
  • Swim any stroke or combination of strokes for 150 yards

This stage continues to build endurance and stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle for teens who have passed all previous stages. Swimmers will work on developing the following important milestones:

 

Developing endurance in the competitive strokes

Developing skills related to competitive swimming, such as flip turns, starts, and finishes

Enhancing skills and building endurance
