Skagit Y Wilderness Club
Skagit Y Wilderness Club:
This unique program will engage elementary students grades 1-5 in hands-on learning and outdoor adventures outside of school hours.
The priorities of the program are threefold:
- Outdoor Recreation: Students will spend time outdoors engaging in educational activities each session. Fostering enjoyment of outdoor activities will promote physical health and social well-being while connecting with the natural world.
- Environmental Education: Through hands-on learning and place-based education, students will learn about different aspects of the natural environment and develop values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty. Example lessons that students will participate in include learning about plants/animals, the seasons/weather patterns, the water cycle, and soil/decomposing process.
- Social and Emotional Health: We aim to support the whole child’s development while creating memories, having fun, and building a foundation for stewardship and love for nature.
Fall 2025 (Conway)
The Skagit Y Wilderness Club is a program designed to engage students in hands-on learning and outdoor adventure during the school year. Conway students in grades 1-5 will have the opportunity to embark on exciting outdoor field trips after school to the Skagit Y’s lakefront and wilderness property just down the road on Lake 16. Students will build deep and meaningful relationships with their peers while learning about the unique landscape, plants, and animals surrounding the Lake 16.
The YMCA will transport children to and from Lake 16.
IMPORTANT: This program is only for students currently enrolled in the Conway School District.
- Location: Conway School and the Y’s Lake Sixteen property (21261 Daisy Lane, Mount Vernon, WA, 98274)
- Dates/Time:
- September 22nd – October 29th 2025
- Mondays and Wednesdays between 3:00-5:30pm (12 total sessions)
- Cost: $290
- Student Eligibility: Open to youth in grades 1 through 5
