Sedro-Woolley Rec Center

The Sedro-Woolley Rec Center (SWRC) is a drop-in center whose goal is to identify unhoused, unaccompanied, and at-risk youth and get them connected to the right resources. With this in mind, our program is open to all middle and high school aged teens! We work to create a no-cost, substance-free, safe environment for teenagers to be themselves, eat plenty of food, and build community with one another.

Mission Statement: The Sedro-Woolley Rec Center is a safe, engaged community dedicated to empowering youth through education, relationship building, and resource connection. We strive to foster an affirming space for all!
We offer resources such as food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and other necessities to youth who come into the Rec Center. Youth identified as unhoused & unaccompanied qualify for Street Outreach Services and individual case management. Our case manager supports them in connecting with other social & housing service providers and can help youth obtain resources needed to support their goals.

The Sedro-Woolley Rec Center follows current best practices regarding substance use prevention and mental health promotion. Protective factors are characteristics of an environment or community associated with fewer negative outcomes. Some protective factors the Rec Center strives to foster include positive community norms, clear expectations for behavior, physical and psychological safety, opportunities for engagement, positive and supportive mentors, and opportunities for skill and interest development. We listen, spend time with, and support all our youth as they navigate interpersonal tensions, social growth, and family dynamics. We spend time together, get curious, stay silly, and model healthy relationships.
For the safety of our young people, staff are not authorized to share personally identifying information with anybody unless the youth gives us specific permission or we are legally obligated to via filing a Child Protective Services or Emergency Services report. If we want to talk to somebody outside of the YMCA about a specific youth, we must obtain permission from that young person first.

All staff within the Sedro-Woolley Rec Center are mandated reporters, which means we have a legal obligation to report any abuse or neglect we are aware of. This also means reporting if we believe somebody to be a danger to themself or others.

We have a locked door policy! This means that individuals must be allowed into the
space by a staff member. This is to prevent unknown individuals from wandering around in our
space, co-mingling with our youth. During open hours all individuals within the space must have a complete volunteer application and a background check on file with the YMCA or must be employed by & currently representing a partner organization.
