LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA Returns to Skagit Valley Offering Hope & Health to Cancer Patients and Survivors

The Skagit Valley Family YMCA is excited to announce the return of the evidence-based LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program, empowering adult cancer survivors and those in treatment to reclaim their health and well-being in spirit, mind, and body.

This free, 12-week wellness program offers a safe, supportive space where participants work with certified Y staff to regain strength, increase endurance, and find confidence alongside others who understand the cancer journey. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA supports holistic recovery by focusing on physical, emotional, and social well-being for survivors and their support networks.

Each 12-week session is offered at no cost to participants and their support person and includes a free YMCA membership during the program and for three months following program completion. Trained Y coaches lead personalized fitness plans that emphasize cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, balance, and emotional resilience in a welcoming environment—no competition, just compassion and encouragement.

Participants meet in their chosen afternoon or evening cohort twice weekly. The Winter 2026 session begins Tuesday, January 6, with afternoon (1:30–3:00pm) and evening (6:30–8:00pm) options available. Expert staff—including Stefanie Lindquist, Amy Cheadle, Nancy Hill Hoffman, and Julie Mach—guide every step, ensuring a tailored experience with specialized training in supportive cancer care. Guest speakers and engaging activities, such as nutrition and meditation deep dives, are sprinkled in throughout the course. The Y plans to offer Spring and Fall sessions in 2026 as well.

“We are thrilled to be bringing back LIVESTRONG at the YMCA to Skagit County,” shares Natalie Cuthbert, Wellness Coordinator at the Skagit YMCA. “This program embodies the Y spirit of creating positive community change by empowering cancer survivors to rebuild strength, foster community, and embrace healthy living with hope and support.”

Research shows that physical activity enhances quality of life for cancer survivors, improving physical functioning, reducing fatigue, and providing social and emotional support.

Registration for the winter 2026 session is open until December 19. Interested participants should email [email protected] if interested in registering. Staff will guide all new registrants through the intake process, health clearance, and answer any individual questions.
