The Skagit Family Y is committed to creating positive spaces for families and children. We recognize that the Native people in our community were denied the possibility of these spaces for generations when their children were forcibly sent to residential schools.
We, the board of the Skagit YMCA, honor the resilience and courage of Native communities in their on-going work to heal from historical and intergenerational traumas.
Going forward, we intend to educate ourselves on these difficult truths and their present-day impact on our communities. Our Board stands in solidarity with the efforts of those working toward healing.
