A Letter from Leadership
Dear Y Family,
By now you have likely seen that our beloved Skagit Valley Family YMCA is part of this unprecedented State-mandated closure. These are challenging times, and our Y is responding in partnership with Skagit Public Health and our state and federal health officials. I have learned, in my short time here in Skagit, that this is a proud community with a long tradition of pulling together in times of need.
Governor Inslee's announcement yesterday is having a rippling effect on communities statewide and although the impact here in Skagit is significant, I believe our community will pull together, as it has done so many times before, to emerge stronger and more united on the other side of this crisis.
Here at the Y, while our childcare centers and YMCA Oasis remain open for now, our Bakerview Center and Hoag Road facility are closed to the public. Our childcare staff will continue to courageously serve Skagit families as long as we are able and plan to meet the increased need for health workers and first responder families. Our Oasis staff is still serving our vulnerable youth in the Emergency Shelter and Daylight Center. I am exceedingly proud of - in awe actually - our staff team who give so much of themselves in the service of families and youth here in Skagit. We have much to be thankful for, even in difficult times!
For our members who regularly access our Hoag Rd and Bakerview facilities, we miss seeing you already and are sorry that we are unable to meet your health and activity needs at those locations. The Y, however, has always been and continues to be, about building community. Right now, our role is to support this community by helping to reduce the effect of COVID-19 on vulnerable individuals and our health care system. Please know, however, that we are still here for you, our members. We encourage you to stay active during this temporary closure. If you would like to speak to a personal trainer or fitness instructor about any home fitness questions or needs you have, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will schedule a time for a call.
Additionally, we have teamed up with Mossa Move to offer free online classes to our members for 60-days (sign-up for 60 days free). View more details here. We have also created several virtual classes led by your favorite Skagit Valley Family YMCA instructors on our YouTube channel. We will continue to add new classes over the coming days.
During this time, we are asking that you continue to support your Y as we continue to support our Skagit Valley community. We will need your continued support as we are not yet in a position to sustain a loss of membership and still meet our financial obligations. This is a critical time in the transition and transformation of our Y. The Skagit Valley Family YMCA has served this community for more than 100 years, and we are now building the platform from which the next several generations will experience community at the Y.
If you can contribute above your membership, those funds will serve to sustain your Y and provide support for our critical programs such as YMCA Oasis. You can donate online or mail your check to 1901 Hoag Rd. Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
Thank you for your continued support. Together we built this Skagit Y and together we can ensure the Y is here to serve Skagit for generations to come.
