2024 Membership Changes: Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about the upcoming changes to membership at the Y

We will update this FAQ page as additional questions arise. (Last Updated: 12/13/23)

The new rates will go into effect on January 1, 2024.

There’s no action required from you. Your bank draft or credit/debit card draft will automatically update to the new rate so you can continue to enjoy all the Y has to offer.

These increases are necessary to respond to inflation, ensure the Y remains a competitive and supportive employer to our hardworking staff, adapt to increased insurance costs, and continue our quality services and programs.

Many of our members have been with the Y for years and years, and we’re grateful they’ve made the Y part of our lives. While rate increases are unavoidable, having a two-tiered system of membership rates allows us to recognize those who keep their membership active. Unlike other industries that give cheaper prices to new members, we want to do the opposite and make sure that those who stick with us always receive the lowest possible rate.

Yes, we increased membership fees in March after not increasing prices since 2020.

The 2024 rates listed above will not change during the entirety of 2024. While the 2025 rates have not been determined yet, members that keep their membership active from one year to the next are guaranteed to pay a lower fee than brand new members.

Moving forward, any membership fee increases will take place on January 1. Members will be notified with at least 30 days’ notice prior to any rate change.

For any member that cancels their membership in 2024 but decides to return later in the year, they will pay the current new member rate. Members who were active before 2024 (and therefore pay a lower monthly fee than new joining members) will lose access to their discounted rates,

In addition, you will be required to pay a $100 rejoining fee if returning within 2 years of cancelling. Please see the next question for more information.

The bottom line: it pays to remain a member and stay locked into the lower rate!

If you decide to cancel your membership but return at a later time, you will need to pay a $100 rejoiner fee if returning within 2 years of cancelling your membership. Even if there is a $0 Joiner promo going on, you will need to pay the rejoiner fee since you were a previous member. ($0 Joiner promos are for new members only or those rejoining after being away for 2+ years).

For example, if you were to cancel your membership in March 2024 but then decide to come back in October of 2024, you would need to pay a $100 rejoiner fee when restarting your membership since you are coming back in under 2 years. If you were to cancel your membership in June of 2024 and decide to rejoin in August of 2026, you could rejoin without a joining fee if returning during a $0 Joiner promo month because you are coming back over 2 years since leaving.

Additionally, rejoining members will be subject to paying the higher, New Member rate upon returning.

Yes, memberships in good standing (no missed payments or outstanding dues) will have the option to put their account on hold in 2024 and pay the same rate they were charged when starting the hold.

Please visit our Membership Handbook for more information on membership holds.

If you’d like to adjust your membership, please contact our Member Engagement team by stopping by the Welcome Center, calling 360-336-9622, or emailing [email protected]. For information on terminations, holds, or refunds, please visit our Membership Handbook page.

Information about rate changes was shared with all active members through a letter mailed to all households, in our member email, a blog post on the website, and on signage around the building. Our physical mailer list was pulled on November 20, so members who joined after this date will not have received a letter in the mail.

No, drop-in prices will not be increasing.

Other paid programs (Ex. Youth sports, swim lessons, etc.) may see changes in price, but these changes are not related to the membership rate increases.

We are excited to share that our facility is back to being a Standard Silver & Fit and Active & Fit location, meaning those of you in these programs won’t be charged an additional monthly fee. If you have friends or family that were impacted by our Premium status this past year, we encourage you to share the good news of the change!

In 2024, our Y will offer memberships for the following programs:

If you have specific questions about your insurance plan, we encourage you to reach out directly to your insurance provider.

A few other updates:

  • Premera Blue Cross Medicare Advantage is one of many Medicare plans that Washingtonians age 65+ can choose from. Until 2023, Premera made their fitness benefit available through Silver & Fit. For 2024, Premera decided to change fitness vendors – they will stop using Silver & Fit and start using FitOn Health starting 1/1/24. Please talk with your insurance provider to confirm any next steps you may need to take or if you have questions.
  • We are excited by the addition of FitOn Health in 2024! For additional information on FitOn Health, please visit our FAQ page here.
  • If you don’t plan on enrolling in one of the insurance programs listed above, you can still sign up for membership at the Y in 2024 through one of our standard membership types. If this applies to you, please contact the Welcome Center and our team can help you get set up with the correct membership plan.

Please be aware that all current members enrolled in Active & Fit, Silver & Fit, or Renew Active will need to bring in your new or current Fitness ID # or confirmation code after January 1, 2024 to reactivate your Y membership. We deactivate all insurance memberships at the end of the year, and you will need to reactivate in order to use the Y again.
